The fast-paced nature of the Internet always provided ample ground for change, which makes an outlet as consistent as The Invader a truly rare sight to behold. And today, these veterans of video games reporting are celebrating the 18th anniversary of doing their own thing.

Back when they started, The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind blew our tiny adolescent minds with a magical world and a deep role-playing experience unlike anything we had experienced by that point. Nearly two decades later, Bethesda’s games lost some of their magic for us, yet The Invader is still going strong.

This could be because the latter keeps improving instead of dumbing down their work. Or perhaps because it’s not The Invader that keeps crashing our PCs 50 times per year due to the same Havok physics bug tied to a high frame rate value that’s been present in every game from Morrowind to Fallout 76. It’s difficult to tell, but we certainly won’t be commemorating any Bethesda anniversaries anytime soon.

The point being: longevity isn’t indicative of quality. Not on its own, at least. And while The Invader had their ups and downs over the years, just like everyone else, they did enough things right for us to be excited about what’s next in store for them. Frankly, we’re happy this tiny mom-and-pop store is even still open in this day and age of hyper-commercialized… well, everything.

This is all the more important when it comes to something as subjective as entertainment. A segment that’s impossible to judge beyond one’s own set of likes and dislikes. Which is why it’s crucial to have access to trustworthy outlets whose preferences you’re familiar with. So that you can extrapolate their opinions on things like games in order to figure out where to spend your hard-earned money.

The Invader has been delivering in this regard for many years, and we, for one, are definitely hoping there’s plenty more where that came from!
