Documents detailing a proprietary, radar-like sensor were filed with the European Union Intellectual Property Office – aka EUIPO – by Samsung just this week.
These documents might just be the revelation of a possible feature of the new Galaxy S21 family of phones set to come out next year. The description in the documents describes an ISOCELL Vizion camera. The description also fits for a 3D ToF sensor. In the description it is noted that there is a sensor with one of the hints being for facial recognition for the company if they decide to put this on the front camera.
Some insiders state that this tech was left out of the 20 lineup from Samsung because they were more focused on the fact that Apple had ordered the sensor. However, it is important to take these rumors for what they are, just rumors, as there is also a rumor stating that the new S series will not feature that 3D ToF sensors at all.
When it comes down to it, only time will tell if these are going to be a part of Samsung’s next smartphone lineup or not but one thing is certain – the Korean company is always eager to source device components from in-house.
A note: You’re looking at an archived piece of content that was covered back in 2020, and I *really* didn’t like that year 😀 For all the newest stuff I would recommend either a jump to the homepage under My Side of Tech or check out the Tech News category.
